Why the UCONN Huskies Football Team Could be BETTER than Last Year.

Above: Andre Dixon, UCONN's current Starting Running back

Last year, UConn Football fans came to the Rent to watch the team try and defeat Rhode Island. They wanted to see Andre Dixon, the running back that was explosive and overall a better back than Donald Brown. But as Donald Brown began to have the best season of his career, leading the NCAA in rushing, and making 2nd team All- American, Andre Dixon was injured, or later supsended. The once crazy running back was now taking a knee for the best Running back in UConn history. Now in 2009, it is his time to shine.
The UConn Huskies are projected to come in 6th place in the Big East, only in front of Syracuse and Louisville. However, I think we will do better than that, much better. Here are a few reasons:
1) Last year, UConn running back stole the spotlight from Dixon. He was thought of only as a mediocre running back, but with all the effort put in the gym, Brown became a star. If Dixon has worked hard this summer, then do not be suprised if Andre is able to put up some big numbers.

2) The Huskies now have a decent Quarter Back in Zach Frazier. Frazier will stay in the pocket and pass, unlike the QB's in the past (Lorenzon, Hernandez). He will take a big hit if he is able to get the pass off. Aside his horrific performance in the West Virginia game (4 attempted pass, 3 interceptions), Frazier was able to play well. He may be able to have a good season ahead of him.

3) Most of the Huskies core defensive players return. Scott Lutrus will look to have another crazy season, and prove himself to be a great running back. If the defense performs well again this year, the Huskies will be able to win more games.
If this is able to happen, expect the Huskies to win some of the big games they have against Notre Dame, Baylor, and UNC. I expect them to play better than they did last season.
